Symbiosis International Educational Center,(SIEC), Pune, currently Symbiosis International University, is a Deemed University under the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act. SIEC became a Deemed University in May 2002 in terms of a notice issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. The SIEC is a member of The Association Of Indian Universities.
SIEC came into being in the year 1971 with the help of the commendable efforts of a lion-hearted Indian named Dr.S.B. Mujumdar, who is the President and Founder Director of the Institute. Dr. Mujumdar established this highly advanced seat of learning with the objective of exchanging the fruits of knowledge with foreign countries. He wanted to provide students in India a broad platform from where they could propel into the international field of management studies.

The Symbiosis International Educational Center comes under the aegis of the Symbiosis Society of educational institutes based in Pune, India. Under its fold, the Symbiosis Society has a total of thirty institutes spread over 8 campuses. Students from all over India as well as from abroad come to study here the nuances of Business Management and other related branches of management under the guidance of eminent academicians and astute professionals. With the opening up of the economy and globalization there has been a tremendous spurt in the number of students willing to undergo courses in various fields of management. Consequently, the student strength in the institutes have gone up tremendously and have now touched almost thirty to thirty-five thousand. SIEC also has a Distance Education Program in which approximately eighty thousand students participate. Unlike most of the other Deemed Universities, the SIEC does not receive any financial assistance from the UGC for running its centers.

SIEC also has a dedicated placement cell which takes care of the placements related enquiries and clarifications of the students. The placement cell also helps the students get suitable placements according to their choice and in accordance with their areas of specialisation.

SIEC offers a 2 – years Postgraduate Diploma Course in Management (PGDM). The course is offered through a Semester System of Education and consists of for semesters each having a duration of 18 weeks. The course is composed of two curricula :

Eligibility
Students who have completed graduation in any discipline and have scored 50% or more marks in the aggregate are eligible to appear for the Entrance Examination, known as SNAP, which is an all-India basis written test conducted by the Institute. However, graduates who have completed their graduation either through correspondence or through distance education are not eligible to appear for the entrance test.

- Prospectus can be purchased from any UTI Bank Branch for Rs.1000/-
- Prospectus to be sent to the Institute, favoring ‘Director, Symbiosis Centre for MGMT & HRD payable at Pune along with two self-addressed stickers.
- The online form can also be filled up by registering on the website.
- Application form with photograph affixed may be sent to the Center.
Placement
Besides providing the scope for academic excellence the SIEC also gives its students an opportunity to get adequate experience and exposure in real life corporate and organizational situations. Placements take place in two phases during the academic career of a student :

- Summer Placement
- Final Placement
The summer placement takes place during the first and second years and provides an opportunity to the students to put into practice their theoretical knowledge. The final placement is a week long process in the month of December and representatives from reputed companies visit the campus to brief the students on the Company’s main business, profile, organizational structure and above all the corporate culture. The final placement takes place after this.
